About

The Friends of Philipstown Recreation 501(c)(3) (FPR) is a non-profit Local Development Corporation (LDC) dedicated to improving the programs and facilities of the Philipstown Recreation Department. They sponsor community events to raise money in order to improve the town’s recreational facilities.

For local Philipstown folks, please consider donating, helping out, or attending Friends meetings. Ultimately, we are here to help the Rec and in turn, help the community. So any support is greatly appreciated!

We’re Looking for New Members! The Friends of Philipstown Recreation is always looking for volunteers who want to give any amount of time.

We are always looking for people to help out at our amazing events too! Help raise money to improve our town’s recreational facilities and to finish pavilion at Philipstown Park. Like our Facebook page to learn more and see our next meeting dates.

Current Projects

Philipstown Park Pavilion

We are getting close to completion on the pavilion at Philipstown Park. We are awaiting plumbing fixtures and stalls to be installed, and it will be ready for use!

Village of Cold Spring Dog Park

Cold Spring villagers have long asked for a dog park to give our furry friends a place to play and socialize off-leash. In order to bring the dog park to life, we need your help. The Recreation Commission and Friends of Philipstown Recreation are seeking to raise $8,000 to install the rest of the fencing for the area, located within Mayor’s Park (shown in photo above), which will continue to be maintained by the Village.

Past Projects

Imagination Playground Blocks

Imagination Playground Blocks are oversized, lightweight foam shapes designed to encourage open-ended, creative play by allowing kids to build, stack, and invent their own play structures.

Thanks to local supporters, these blocks are available for the community at the Philipstown Recreation Center.

Fundraisers

Castle to River Trail Races

The Castle to River Trail Race is a scenic trail running event benefiting the Friends of Philipstown Recreation.

Set against the stunning backdrop of Hudson Highlands State Park, the event features a challenging Half Marathon, a 5K, and a fun, 1-mile Kids Run. The Half Marathon takes runners past Castle Rock and down to the Hudson River, with rewarding views and rugged climbs while the 5K offers a mostly flat loop along historic trails, perfect for runners, walkers, and hikers of all levels. The Kids Run takes place right at the Rec Center. With beautiful fall scenery, a well-marked course, and a welcoming community atmosphere, it’s a great day out for the whole family.
